Welcome to this newsletter
A space dedicated to exploring the critical intersections of science, society, and international security. For decades, my work has revolved around these fields, driven by a deep passion for understanding and addressing the world’s most urgent challenges. From nuclear arms control to the societal and environmental transformations sparked by scientific and technological breakthroughs, my career has provided a front-row seat to history in the making.
My journey has taken me from Hyderabad, India, where I was born, to London, where I was raised and educated, and ultimately to the United States, which I now call home. Along the way, I’ve collaborated with some of the brightest minds in science and policy—mentors and colleagues who have shaped how I think about global security, innovation, and the delicate balance between progress and the societal impact of scientific discovery.
My path has been anything but conventional. I’ve rebuilt Watson and Crick’s original DNA model for the Science Museum, delved into dolphin intelligence, chronicled the legacies of activist scientists like Linus Pauling, and engaged with the commercial Internet during its formative years. Despite the diversity of these experiences, they all stem from a shared fascination with how science and technology shape our world and the moral questions they compel us to answer.
This newsletter continues that journey. Here, I’ll share reflections on the intersection of science and society, offer insights into global security challenges, and explore the complex questions that shape our time. My aim is to create a community of engaged, thoughtful readers—curious minds eager to tackle intricate issues with nuance, rigor, and imagination.
Together, we’ll examine pressing global challenges, unpack international strategies, and reflect on the enduring interplay of art and science. Along the way, I’ll invite you to join me in asking the tough questions and seeking meaningful answers as we envision a future driven by curiosity, collaboration, and action.
This newsletter is a continuation of my efforts to engage with these vital issues, but in a more personal and conversational format. Each month, I’ll share insights, reflections, and thought-provoking discussions on topics that resonate deeply with me—and, I hope, with you.
